Kalon Studios is focused on contemporary form and innovative design. Founded in Los Angeles, Kalon was created because first-time parents, Johannes Pauwen and Michaela Simmering could not find a sustainable crib that also met their design needs. Within a year Kalon was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential green companies in the world!
Each piece is made by a small team of highly skilled traditional craftspeople in New England using timber sourced from local, sustainably managed forests and the highest quality sustainable finishes and materials. Pieces are designed with flexibility of use, durability and timeless desirability in mind. Their intent is that the user will keep the product for a lifetime and that the piece will adapt to the user's ever-changing needs and tastes.
At Kalon Studios, every effort is made to be as green and sustainable as can be. These efforts to find sustainable solutions to manufacturing have allowed them to engage in the newest and sometimes the oldest methods and materials.
Kalon prides itself on using raw materials that are renewable, biodegradable, non-toxic and food safe. They have even finished their woods with an oil developed that is so green, so-non toxic that it’s practically food grade. Kalon has won numerous awards in the US and Europe for their sustainability efforts and continue to be transparent in their process and ethics.
For Kalon, sustainability is defined as having multiple intentions all which center on the idea of balance, of giving as much as they take, be it through economics, the environment or on the everyday human level.
